Autism Awareness is growing but there is still a need for more knowledge. Autism now effects 1 in 68 children. 1 in 42 of that relates to boys. Boys are 5 times more likely than girls to have autism. On average autism costs a family $60,000 a year. At this time there is no medical detection or a cure for autism.
Anti-bullying is a serious issue these days. About 28% of students ages 12-18 reported being bullied at school during the regular school year. Over 160,000 kids per day do not attend school for fear of being bullied. Now, with social media growing, upwards of 55% of students have experienced cyberbullying.
Currently over 5 million people are living with Alzheimer's including our owners grandfather. Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States claiming 1 in 3 seniors' lives. Last year alone, 15 million caregivers provided and estimated 18.1 billion hours of unpaid care valued at $221.3 billion. In 2016, Alzheimer's will cost the nation $236 billion and will rise to $1 trillion in 2050.
Artz Education students are 4 times more likely to be recgonized for academic achievement and 3 times more likely to be awarded for school attendance. Arts and music education programs are mandatory in countries that rank consistantly amung the highest for math and science test scores. Students are also 4 times less likely to focus in classes when they are hungry. We want to do something about both.
Asthma Awareness is something that hits home. Our owner, DeMarco Howard, has suffered with asthma since he was a small child. In children 5-17, asthma is one of the top reasons they miss school. Adult sufferers miss about 14 million work days each year which equates to about $2 billion in indirect costs.
DanceBeat is a charity based product line focused on giving back. With these few products our mission is 5 + 5 = 10. What that means is that our products will come in 5 colors to benifit 5 charities and they will get 10% of the proceeds. Each cause was chosen due to the impact it has had on our staff and the community. Our owner, DeMarco Howard, has suffered with asthma since he was a child. Over the past two years, his grandfather has lost more of his memory and was offically diagnosed last year. One of our staff member, Brianna Tenbrink has a sibling with autism and has developed a passion for helping those like her sister. Bullying has been something DeMarco has faught for some time now and continues to battle. When it comes to Arts and the education benefits it has, DeMarco believes that there is always time for art, music, dance, and any other way to be creative.
